Nigeria's embattled president will meet unions for a second time on Saturday to try to avert a complete shutdown of oil and gas production.
It's the latest backlash over the government's decision to cut fuel subsidies.
A national strike has been in place since Monday.
Al Jazeera's Haru Mutasa reports from Abuja.
Nigeria supplies the world with over 2,200,000 barrels of oil per day. Over 8% of the crude oil that the U.S. imports comes from Nigeria.
In addition Iran is on the verge shutting the Strait of Hormuz to oil tankers…on any given day 20% the world’s crude oil passes through this strait. Then there’s the supply disruptions that are a result of the US imposed sanctions upon Iran. It’s quite likely that next week me may see a >5% increase in the price of crude.
