Esquenta

The word "Esquenta" translates from the Portuguese to "warmup" which is what this piece is. The Handphibians will play it as an intro to their Samba show. Traditional samba instruments are featured in this piece to include tamborim (hand drum), surdo (bass drums), repique (Brazilian drum played with a stick and hand), chocalho (a rack of sleigh bells), caixa (snare drum), and agogo bells.

The Handphibians are a Madison-based group dedicated to playing and promoting Brasilian-style percussion.
