In this video, I show you how to bake delicious vanilla cupcakes using a very simple recipe. (I'm using bettyskitchen's recipe. She's great. Check her out!) Then, I show you how to decorate them using homemade buttercream icing and Wilton sprinkles. (see seriouscakes video for a great buttercream recipe).

Cupcake Recipe:
1 cup of sugar
1 1/2 sticks of butter (3/4 of a cup)
1 1/2 cups of self-rising flour
1-2 tablespoons of warm water
1 tsp vanilla extract (or extract of your choice)
3 eggs
**To make the cupcakes more white, use 4 EGG WHITES instead of 3 whole eggs.
***Optional: Food colorings of your choice

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Gather all of your ingredients. Begin by creaming your butter and sugar together until fluffy.
Then, in 3 separate additions, add your flour and eggs. (1/2 cup of flour & 1 egg at a time, blend, repeat until all is incorporated).
Add your water and extracts. Blend.
At this point, you can divide the batter equally into separate bowls to add color if you wish.
Put the batter into the 12 cupcake liners. If you use more than one color, just layer the colors on top of each other until you have no batter left.
Bake at 400 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Frost and decorate as desired! The most important thing to remember when decorating is that there is NO right or wrong way to do it. Just have fun!

  • where do u get purple food coloring?

  • @crazy4food4765 I use Wilton gel color, which you can get at any craft store. My local Wal Mart has it as well. Or, go check out the baking aisle (where all the extracts and stuff are) and there are Neon food colors. A purple is included in that package. Or you can mix red and blue. Hope this helps!

  • can i just use regular flour??

  • @KimberlyBeyonce You can use regular flour, but then you'll have to add baking soda and baking powder. I just prefer to use self-rising for this particular recipe. =)

  • @LilMissDancingBaker Actually, if you read the description, I credited bettyskitchen with the recipe. I added the 2-color aspect and wanted to show the decorating. I would NEVER steal someone else's work. Before you start making accusations, maybe you should check your reading and observation skills.

That's your opinion. There's no reason to be hateful or rude! If you think you can do better, feel free to post a video response.
