"Long Lonely Nights" written by Lee Andrews, Bernice Davis, Mimi Uniman, and Douglas Henderson, and recorded by the Philadelphia group, Lee Andrews & the Hearts, on the Mainline label reached #45 on the U.S. Pop charts and #11 on the R&B charts in 1957. It is a fine example of the great Doo-Wop sound of the 50s.

  • still have my original 45 of this great record, plus many others, am rea;lly glad i saved them, most of them are at least 50/55 years old, nothing like old doo wop, consider my self an original rocknroller

  • @yhtaksnobbig I still have most of my old 45s too, yhtaksnobbig.

  • Douglas Henderson- wasn't that Jocko?

  • @billchew450 Douglas Henderson, known as Jocko, was a well known DJ in Philadelphia and New York around the time that this song appeared, but I'm not sure if he was the same person who wrote it.

  • @catman916 I'm in a little doowop group, figured I'd wing LLNights at practice one evening for them. Had NEVER attempted it before. Finished real strong then had to sit and just weep for a while. woof . What a wonderful cathartic song :_)

  • @jollywally001 Good for you. I think that Doo-Wop is unknown or under appreciated by the younger generations. Do you also do the other big Lee Andrews hit, "Teardrops?"

  • love this song , lovely memories of the 50s thanks for posting this :)

  • I think this may be my best song

  • @robshannon Which one you referring to? "Teardrops''? Someone actually removed my posting of a year ago - can you believe it? iTunes has a demo version of LLnites as well as the released version. But released version still chills me to the bones. Listen to the Past, Look to the Future, Live in the Now - With your Oldies Cranked Up. Music Manned - Not Canned.

  • @jollywally001 Put it on, lets hear it.

  • To Mopable: Artists no longer paint as the great masters painted but that does not make the Mona Lisa invalid. If people like doo wop music, how does that hurt you?

  • LEE ANDREWS and the HEARTS were so great, there aren't many groups that can compare to them!! A great slow dance song!! This along with TRY THE THE IMPOSSIBLE were 2 of the greats (along with the MELLOWKINGS) of the 50s!!

  • if it wasn't music like this ... i don't know where i'd be
