Well, this may not be the best drawing ever. Plus it's my first video, so it is a bit weird trying something new and then publishing it.

But, I drew this to "sorta kinda" explain how drawing bodies would work.

A really big eye opener for me was this site: http://www.animatedbuzz.com/tutorials/proportion.html
Check it out, it may help you too.. Good idea to look at it and come back here to look at this tutorial.

For those lazy people, the site says:

The standard proportion for a human body is 7.5 or 8. 8 is the ideal head height.

The first head height is the head, the bottom of the second head height is the nipples.. The bottom of the 3rd head height is the bellybutton/elbows (well the elbows fall a bit above it). The bottom of the fourth head height is where the crotch should be.

For shoulders, guys usually have 3 head widths for shoulders, and 2 head widths (half on each side) for hips.
Girls are the opposite. (You can do 3 head widths for a girl though, 2 for the hips.)

I hope this video helps somewhat. I started off drawing 4 circles, then a stick figure (the stick figure of the arms becomes the end of the arms). Then I fleshed it out.

Song by OLIVA- Devil is in me. Program used: Paint tool Sai. and for recording: Camtasia Studio.

  • @robert91897 Okay.

  • do you use a wacom?

  • @marieschild Sorry, I was in China, so I couldn't respond... Yes, I do use a wacom Intuos 3, it's pretty old...

This was done in paint tool sai (I believe it was in the description), I also have photoshop.

  • how did u make a copy of the eye still learnning to draw anime but after seeing this im gonna use my manga studios without a tablet i cant wait anymore LoL

  • @djnosleeves85 10 months later, heh... Assuming you have not figured it out:

In things like photoshop and sai, using a selection tool (in photoshop's case the polygon lasso or even pen tool, whatever it may be) select the area you want to copy, then ctrl+j (or ctrl+c, make a new layer, ctrl+v).

There's a huge likelihood that you can do the same thing in manga studio. In the two programs there's this thing called transform/flip horizontal so then I flipped the eye.

  • @einsgotdemar Yeah, I don't get it either. If they actually went to my DA (even when I first made this video) they'd notice my style is a whole lot better than what I had produced, but ok...

  • Gawd. lots o haters... Art is a journey...

  • Which software do you use to draw those pictures?

  • @djnosleeves85 'normally' just made a separate layer for eyes, then I duplicated that layer, and changed the rotation to horizontal rotate... Moved the other eye over with the move tool.
