2004 Grand Prix GT1. Quick recording taken June 2007 to accompany an advert to sell the car. This video might be handy if you're interested in buying one of these 04's used but haven't been behind the wheel yet. Much hoo'rah is made about the supercharged version, but in this video you can hear what the standard 3800 w/ dual exhaust sounds like behind the wheel, plus the interior, gauges and buttons. BACKGROUND: I owned this car from 05-07 after my 01 Impala LS was totaled. Was bought 1 year old with 49K km in Halifax NS for only $12,750 (less than 1/2 price of new -- gotta love gm depreciation). Yes I know these Pontiacs are a bit cheesy and the interiors a tad Rubbermaid, but for the money it was a perfect car for the 2 yrs and 35K I drove it. Was used mostly for long distance highway driving and was comfortable and entertaining even after 10 hrs. Can pass anything in seconds, and got around 38mpg or 7.5 L/100km. Sold when I moved to Montreal Quebec in 07 for $10,250 so I figured it was a decent ROI and no repair costs at all.

  • I've put 85,000 miles on my 04 Grand Prix GT. On several trips the best mpg it ever got was 28. I think 38 is not realistic.

  • @spockistheman "mpg" are different in the U.S. than elsewhere in the world due to americans using a different size of gallon than usual.

  • @mtlmikeh a gallon is a gallon anyone who told you differently is an idiot just as you are

  • @FayBird55 You sir, are an idiot. Get your facts straight before you shoot your mouth off.

  • @mtlmikeh 1 US Gallon = 0.8 Imperial Gallons = 3.7 Liters.

So. There you guys can stop arguing. 38mpg is not unheard of, it could have been a lot of coasting or a downhill trip... who knows. Also, how long is the average over? Did you go 3.8 miles down a hill and use a tenth of a gallon or what?

  • @VivaLaBamEpisodes .. The 38mpg was what the trip computer displayed over a 12 hour drive from Halifax to Montreal (apx 1500km), and actual fuel costs reflected that. It was all highway driving between 100-120km/h.

  • The 3.8 liter GM engine is one of the most reliable engines in history. From ANY maker. They frequently get well over 200k miles with NO problems.

  • i just bought an 05 gt , sick car

  • @spockistheman Yeh 38 is a bit high. My Comp G gets around 30 at best and I average about 28

  • @mtlmikeh I know it's a year later but anyway.

Actually in most of latin america we measure consumption in Kilometers per Liter.

That 3800 engine is really good, my 97' firebird has over 250k miles on it and is still going strong.

  • @FayBird55 lol americans, you're so silly :)

  • @mtlmikeh Trip computer in my GTP is not 100% acurate, its best to do the math by hand. When my trip says 22mpg I am really getting like 19mpg. These cars do get good mpg at 45-70mph but the faster you go after 45 the worse the mpg gets. I just did a 800 mile trip and my average speed was 77mph and got 30.02mpg and my car is not new by any means, has 170k miles!

  • @mtlmikeh My fault, didn't realize it was in a different country. Nice car, I love mine!
