  • @ursuss100 Exactly. Cars are getting safer, but the danger of getting plunked in the head is unfortunately still too real. We've lost too many drivers that way; Hunter Reay is fortunate.

  • I cringed when he mentioned Wheldon.

  • I was at this race a bit down the track in the outside stands and I only got a glimpse of the accident but it sure got my attention!

  • These indycar catch fences would be better if they were put on backwards...

Conoway, Brack and Wheldon are only 3 victims of this...

  • Very lucky that his head don't hits the wall D:

  • Actually, this looks most like the crash Zempedri had in the late 90's. It was also on the last lap and on a spot on the track close to where this crash occurs. While this was in the short chute between 3&4, Zampedri's was a little bit further down, at the beginning of the front stretch.

  • This shows that cars are so much safer now

Look at this crash, mark webber in Valencia f1, they keep getting better, than we are reminded that it is not always that safe

    RIP WHELDON

  • That in car view is insane

  • that must have been so surreal for RHR. Ironic that he said it reminded him of the Wheldon accident, when just a year later thats how he was killed.

  • It is true that something should be done regarding head safety of Indycar on ovals. But this problem should have been addressed long ago, and before someone died. Sadly, actions only take effect when tragedy happens... And this is not a freak crash, this danger has always been inherent to single-seaters and it has always been on my mind ever since I started watching CART in the 90's, and I always wondered why no one ever thought of doing something about it before some tragedy occurred...
