Larry at the height of his powers destroying one of his favorite opponents. After torching the Hawks in game 2 (especially Dominique late in the 4th) with his scoring, Bird came back with yet another showcase of his unmatched all around game here. Hawks put up a stand in game 4, but Celtics would take care of them in game 5 with the famous record setting third quarter run (uploaded earlier).

Make sure you stick around to watch that dime at the end...

Stats:
28 pts (12-19 shooting)
9 rebounds
12 assists

  • @lmathis428 Bird had a more-seasoned team around him, a team that would get an extreme amount of calls two years later against 'Nique's very team en route to "winning" the series.

Being the best and getting the most votes are separate issues, my friend.

  • You really think that ANYONE other than Bird deserved MVP in 1986?? No one was better than Bird in 1986. Even as NBA player of the week that season, Bird was more consistent, winning player of the week by the NBA 4 times to Wilkins 2 times, player of the month 2 times to Wilkins 1 time. Yeah, Wilkins was NBA leading scorer this year. Big deal. Jordan scored 63 in the 86 playoffs, Game 2, and the Bulls got swept!! Just like the Hawks went down in 5 games in this series. No one was beating Boston!

  • legend

  • @TheDOLMET Do NOT take God's name in vain, and by the way, Dominique deserved the MVP this year, and Bird the runner-up, just like Mike Fratello indeed deserved "coach of the year" over K.C. Jones. At least the voters got the latter right.

The Hawks would get Boston two years later. Boston "won" the series, but the Hawks received NUMEROUS scam calls that benefitted the score of David Stern's favorite team, the Celtics. This classless video-poster has no idea what he's talking about.

  • I'm not sure I even have to watch this. No team in the history of basketball was going to take out the 86 Celts. Alright, I'll watch for the fun of it!

  • Larry Bird and that GOD DAM FAKE PASS and then the JUMP SHOT, Im going to add that to my game

  • 0:41 DAMN!!!! Nasty step back from Bird.

  • there would never ever ever ever be... another Larry Bird!!

  • Another great post. Fun to watch Bird play and just wait for the defense to make a move so he could counter and create for his teammates. What a basketball mind, always knew where everybody was on the floor (all 9 of them) and had endless ways of shooting and passing with either hand and always used his body to get proper position and get an advantage.

  • he basically messed with his opponents during his prime. it seems like only jordan and bird really could embarrass another player so easily
