Was made aware of Junior through a muso mate..an awesome sound and a brilliant blues feel ..charisma can't be taught..you either have it or you don't..JW has it in spades..this is the blues guys ..the real deal ;-)
@TheDancingSaxophone no man; it's a "lawsuit" era copy from Japan's Tokai made anywhere from '78 or so to '82 or '3. I believe it's one of the rarer models with an all gold neck. Jr. had a guy refin the headstock w/ the logo and all details. Tokai's from that era are excellent guitars as both Gibson and Fender acknowledged at the time. Google lawsuit Tokai.
Watson is the king of this genre - Westcoast swing and jump blues. Last I checked Carlton didn't play swing. Watson is nothingBUT emotion and creativity, unlike the thousands of hacks out there, including yourself. ( I went to your home page. You guys should stop while youre ahead)
I've been playing for going on 40 years so there aint no name you could drop that I don't know about. But I could drop a few on you - Take a listen to Tiny Grimes and you'll start to hear what Juniors saying.
So sad--you guys all have such poor ears--emotion & creativity is the key. I see some one knocking Larry C--that guy can coax more out of ONE note than these so called new blues guys who are nothing more than shredders. Listen to other players and then create from what you hear. Be yourself---articulation, nuance, dynamics--and--space between passages. been playing for 54 yrs. shared the stage with guys you probably never heard of-unless you're familar with Paul Butterfield. BE YOURSELF !
@bluesatbirth Everything that can be said on guitar has been said already. What s left is to offer different interpretations. modern blues players often play in the style of a recognizable artist playing the whole tune in character -if you use this clip to judge him you've missed the point. His style is beyond what a lot of the older guys were ever capable of technically. to shrug off Watson as "just another guy copying BB" doesn't reflect well upon your depth, because clearly he's not.
Bluesatbirth etc....junior's copying older guys playing...well hold the front page!! who hasn't? It's where we all get ideas...off someone else...even Robert Johnson copied other people. Actually, Junior goes well beyond merely copying...you need to pay a bit more attention.
