This is a video of the famous winter trains of the Sierra Railway. This year, the winter trains are pulled not by the 1265 diesel or Sierra's shay #2, but by Movie Queen #3! The train consisted of the recently restored caboose #7, and enclosed coach car #14. The 3-spot puts on a great show for the many visitors, while Santa and Dave Rainwater, "The Fiddler" entertain the guests in the warm coach and caboose. With the 3's whistle truly back and as good as new, that made this trip all that much more special to the crews and railfans. The Sierra #3 will run the first weekend of every month through 2011, and will be selected for other special events through out the new year. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!

  • Love the ghostly whistle sounds at the end. Very Haunting.

    what ghostly whistle?

  • I said at the end.

I know, but its not haunting. Its lonesome, like all whistles are. A haunting whistle is like Mason County Logging Co. #7's on the first weekend of Steamfest last year. when you'd hear it back in the canyon, it gave me goosebumps!

  • What a GREAT video... I LOVE how the whistle sounds now... it gives me goosebumps!! It's also really cool to see such cool new stuff going on at Railtown... #3 running and sounding great, the refurbished car and them running a caboose! Wow, I really need to move up there...

There is no other refurbished car in the train besides #7 caboose. The #14 had a wheel set changed out but that's all. One major new thing for the railfans next year is the #2's whistle (people call it the high pitched "Chinese" whistle) is being switched for a brand new Southern Railway 3 chime! I CAN'T wait to hear it in a couple months!!! Thanks for the comment! And when I heard that first whistle out of the yard to the crossings, I slowly started to look amazed at how it sounded!
