Willie and Trigger grew older together, it's no wonder he can make it sound that beautiful. This comes straight from wiki, so you know it can't be wrong... "Nelson has often said that when the hole in Trigger's body makes the guitar unplayable he will retire." I pray that never happens and I don't think it ever will, he'll find a way to keep ole Trigger in working order... I hope! This version is pure genius on the guitar, he makes it seem so effortless and easy... must be for Willie.

@koekiepawpaw
well, first of all, he uses a classical guitar and uses classical nylon strings. Second, he has been playing guitar for something like 65 years, no exaggeration, so start practicing and you may sound a little bit like him in 50 years or so!! Finally, he is an icon and there is no hope whatsoever of ever sounding just like him so you may as well just enjoy rather than copy. But believe me, I understand the desire to want to play like him, it is just an unattainable goal :)

I'd say a couple years hard work and you could play to this standard. Also remember he has a backing band and a sound tech, and probably a very expensive guitar. I'd say the thickness of the pick is also a factor in the "fat" sound. Maybe loose tension strings, too.

Great rendition of one of Willie's greatest songs. Just wish Mickey Freakin Gilley wasn't such a prick and rude bastard. His songs always sucked and he always sounded like Lawrence Welk trying to play Jerry Lee Lewis. He can look boread as hell, but Willie is probably more popular than ever while Mickey does infomercials on tv. Screw Him!
