Woodlouse Shedding ワラジムシの脱皮

Woodlouse (Porcellio scaber?, family Porcellionidae) moulting the lower part of body. Early-May 2009 in Japan.

団子虫の飼育のついでにワラジムシも同居させています。見慣れないツートンカラーの個体がいたので写真を撮り始めると、目の前でするりと脱皮しました。ダンゴムシと同様に­（本で読んだ）、まず体の後ろ半分だけ脱皮し、その後で前半分も脱皮するらしい。ダンゴムシは脱皮殻を自分で食べてしまうそうだが、このワラジムシは光を嫌ったのか白い抜­け殻を残して逃走。落ち葉の下に隠れたのをめくって撮影続行。新しい下半身を膨張させている様子が観察できました。

i have over 200 pill bugs in a glass quarium in my green house shed but how do you know if one is boy or girl and how do they mate????

as for pillbugs, i know only about Armadillidium vulgare.

plz check out my vid clip "Pillbugs - Male & Female" to know the sex diff.

i have yet to witness their mating.

The most hardiest part for the bugz to shed is the front part of their body.....its good we dont hav to shed =P

we have to buy new clothes when we get fat. lol

ive read that pillbugs moult just like this, first rear half and then front half next day.

I had alot of pill bugs last time and found a load of shells in the soil and the ones that shed were digging in the soil.

@sigma1920 i'm srry no but the reason i know is because my felmale pillbug was standing right beside her sheded skin and you could seee the lower half of it shedded but i know somehow when a pillbug will shed becuase the skin gets to be verk weak so next time i'll keep an eye out for week skin and i'll leave my digital camera in the garden shed so i can get it filmed and send it to you.

u can see it pulsating, pumping up the new external skeleton after shedding.

btw, ive read that pillbugs moult just like this, and then they eat the old skin.
