Whats the depth?

What we use to do is that we make some sort of guide routes and markers on the ice with arrows pointing to the entry hole so if you look from under the ice up you know which way the entry hole is. Just in case something fucks up with our reel or guide line or compass under the ice etc. But it depends on local conditions how thick and clear the ice is, if there is snow on top or not etc.

Well, that's one piece of kit you don't immediately think of when planning a dive, you know, a chain saw.
As interesting as it is, and thanks for sharing (etcetera), but I think you've cured me of my need to log a few ice dives... ;O)

I think it would be pretty fun just to go and do this, just so you can say "Yeah, I cut ice. With a chainsaw. IN ANTARCTICA." to anyone you meet. Looks fun though:)

awesome!
The water they dive in is between 1m and 500m deep but due to high safety in Antarctica the guys dive to only around 30 meters, I think.
