Say Yes To Apes - Kevin Smith

I wasn't sure how to present this - I never knew Kevin Smith was an actor until I read about his death (sorry I never watched Xena that much). The Kevin Smith I was familiar with made crazy low-fi music in the early 80's in Invercargill, New Zealand. But since very few people outside New Zealand know about his early music, I thought I'd load this.
The first song is "Toddler Gets Caught in the Rain" from his 1983 "Badass" (pronounced "Bard-Ass") album - theoretically a solo album, but with help from Steven Watson of Say Yes To Apes.
Then its straight into "Say Yes To Apes" from his band Say Yes To Apes, off their 1983 "Who's That?" album, which is a bit stranger.
All this was self recorded, produced, and 'marketed' to suckers like me...
Not sure if I'll do any more of these montages, they are getting too boring...

oops sorry only just noticed the guy who posted this already said that, pretty much. i was the drummer of SYTA & we'd been planning to do a reunion of some sort when Kev died...wish it'd happened...i hadn't seen him for about 10 years at that point....

btw the 1st song is not Say Yes To Apes as such, this song (it's called "Toddler Gets Caught In The Rain") was off Smith's "solo" album (under the pseudonym Hyphen-Smythe) "Bad Ass"...2nd song is called "Say Yes To Apes", by the band of the same name, from our 1st album "Who's That (Fucknose)"...the drawings by Phil Howe & Kevin are from the covers of these records & other SYTA/Smythe records

Thanks for the info. I knew Kevin at school in Timaru when he was there. He was a year ahead of me and i was proud that he did so well. And so it was with great sadness that i heard of his passing.

i'm just the opposite i didn't know he was a singer.i only watched him on xena.

i knew he could sing from the xena conventions but i didn't know he was in a music group.
