September 5, 2008....Six of us launched from the mainland in Ventura aiming for Anacapa Island where we were planning to spend two nights. Two people from our group took the ferry instead and met us on the island. We also had a couple friends who rented a sailboat and acted as an escort for part of the traverse. They also helped us transporting some of the gear we needed for the night.

On day 2, we circumnavigated the island exploring the mainy sea caves and enjoying the hundreds of seals and birds that populate the island.

On day 3, we paddled back to the mainland.

  • Man that is a loooong way to paddle a Jackson classic Fun. Looks like fun.

  • That is true. Those river boats are not very efficient to cover mileage in open ocean....but they are a blast getting into tight sea caves.

  • I'm very interested in doing this trip too. I am an experienced river kayaker but am wondering about oceanic kayaking. What is the best sit inside kayak for this kind of trip? I paddled my river kayak in Ventura Harbor and what a pain! I need a rudder!
