@cybertail my guess is because (as you saw) one of the children was named Maria and so instead of just changing her name to avoid confusion they just changed all the other names for uniformity. Plus, the Sound of Music is largely inaccurate anyway. Still, i love it! :)

This movie definitely has its merits; it keeps the children's original names (except for Johanna, why didn't they just change Maria's name?) , it shows what their lives were like in America and it shows that Maria and the Captain had more children together. HOWEVER I will always be loyal to "The Sound of Music" Still, without this movie we wouldn't have SOM in the first place. :)

I saw this movie when I was a kid - before Sound of Music came out. I liked it better than the Sound of Music. I am also a musician (classical) and in the years after was able to get a record of the real von Trapp singing and playing recorders. They were really very good musicians playing baroque and classical chamber music and singing madrigals and German/Austrian folk songs. They also added American and British folksongs later. The Sound of Music is 3rd rate portrayal of the family.

The depiction of Georg Von Trapp in this movie is more accurate to the quite easy going disposition of the real Georg Von Trapp.

@Anastasia5762 Somebody did upload the whole thing a couple of years ago but YouTube deleted it. They mentioned some mumbo-jumbo about copyright.
