this is the best thing for a reef , as far as lighting , ... its the same thing as if clouds were going over the sky all day !! ... if you look up videos , on how liveaquaria dose there lighting , its the same way , and they have some of the best corals , and healthiest inverts , and fish out there !!! i order everything from liveaquaria , you cant beat there prices , and free shipping over 225!! straight to your door the next morning !

@perpetual98 yer thats true the sun dose move you have a good idea but the sun is about 93000000 miles away and yours is very close to be affective the light should be a bit larger than the tank and then should be on a half cycle around the tank and go up and down just like the sun goes up and over us every day. and i no you were just showing us but im just saying it should be a shit load slower

HOW MUCH DID YOU PAY? I BET WAY TOO MUCH SUCKER!

Maybe perpetua will be the next "Real scarry movieKing".

Great ingenuity', don't think yer coral can acclimate to the short duration's of actinic synthesis. 2 1/2 years latter...

T5 HO bulbs will give you much much better colouring in the coral. It alows for different light spectrum, really brings colours out in corals !

And that does?

Metal Halide lighting is super expensive. This allows him to have one or two less bulbs but still illuminate the tank thoroughly.
My question is, what is the cost effectiveness vs. just using more bulbs. Also, the tank looks new, what is the long term effect of lighting that is not stationary? The corals will get only half the lighting the would normally get. Maybe not half but definitely less.

The corals are actually getting more light from different angles than they would be with a fixed light above the tank. This setup is really just to play around with it. It would be better over a larger tank. Moving 2 halides about 12"-18" back and forth over a 48" tank would be ideal and the corals would get crazy light and have more natural growth. The sun isn't in a fixed position in the sky.

Pretty damn sweet dude. What kind of actinics do you have?
Radar2500 4 years ago
They're Coralvue Actinics, Coralvue 50/50 daylight bulbs and a Phoenix 14,000K (I think) 150W halide.

what is that thing moving back and forth

It's a metal halide pendant for lighting the corals. :)
