The better way is to set launch options: "-window -noborder -novid"
This will run the game in windowed-full screen mode as long as actual full screen is off. You can also record at your computer optimal resolution this way. I use fraps for in game recording it's much better for that, hypercam for any desktop non-ingame recording.

Or you know. You could use the source recorder that's already built into the game and record with better quality.
