I just scrapped my first and hopefully only dishwasher. Spent 2 hrs taking the copper out of the thingy.
-
the heating elements on the bottom of the inside i think if i remember right are stainless steel.
-
yeah the good ones are pre 80 they are mainly steel with lots of brass
-
I only pick up the stainless steel units. here is Australia, 8 out of 10 Dishwahers have a stainless 'tub' or inside housing (the bit you smashed with a hammer, taking 2 times as long as it would to unscrew it LOL) so they are worth around 55c a LB instead of 10c. I leave the plastic ones for someone else...

@UnnamedThinker LOL That is the way to do it - just knock off the motor on the bottom =)

@thesars101 It happens to me all the time. For the life of me I do not know why I do not have a screwdriver and a hammer in my vehicle at all times... =P

Most big scrap yards will take stuff like that as is, plastic and all. Just take it in with a load of mostly metal. Something like that, just cut any wires off it and grab and brass fittings you see. But, dishwashers aren't worth enough to spend that much time with.

@jdat747 I agree, just knock off the small engine on the bottom and bring to the yard.
