This is the video of the proton pack I built a few years ago and updated in 2009. I uploaded it originally to my girlfriend's account, but I thought I'd upload it here now, to keep all my videos in one place.

Full instructions and lots of pictures are available at:

Also, check out the October 2011 issue of Popular Science, they did a little blurb about my pack!

  • Are the laser beams visible?

  • @indianabrick In a dark place, the green beam is visible. If there's any sort of fog or smoke or dust in the air, both are nicely visible.

  • @depotdevoid So, perfect for halloween night, eh?

  • @indianabrick Exactly!

  • Great job man! How did you add the lasers to the gun? I know it's described on your site but could it work by putting a laserpen in the gun? I guess the size should fit. And where do you think should we go to get a replica for a good (too cheap is often bad quality) but not too expensive price?

  • @feetpovlover It's pretty much the guts from a laser pen in there. I don't know where to get a good replica at an inexpensive price, if cost is an issue I'd really recommend building it yourself--similar packs to this sell on ebay for 400-600 dollars. The really professional ones are 1500+ depending on options.

  • amazing.

  • Its awesome you were recognized by Popular Science... this Proton Pack is really cool and far superior to other amateur projects I've seen. I bet you could get other stuff into PopSci too! Thanks for the cool fun Ian!

  • @michaels4rus Thanks Mike! I hope to outdo myself with this year's project. Know anyone who wants to buy this old pack to help fund the new project?

  • This has always been one of my favourite projects of yours. Way to go being mentioned in PopSci!
