The IDF website hosts lone soldiers who immigrated to Israel by themselves

For Corporal Meli Saljan, life in Istanbul has not been easy. She felt that she had to hide her religion, traditions and even the Star of David on her neck. Meli was born in Israel when her parents, who were born in Turkey, moved there for a short period of time. Shortly after her birth, they returned back to Turkey, however, her desire to return to Israel was always inside of her. After graduating from high school in turkey, Meli began her studies in Israel and afterwards joined the army. Soon she will be sent to officers school and will become the first officer in her family.
