In That's The Spirit (1945) Jack Oakie as a ghost uses his flute to influence mortals Gene Lockhart (Miracle on 34th Street) and Andy Devine (Island in the Sky). In the 2nd half of the clip other cast are identified. In addition to those, the film starred Buster Keaton (who appears in another clip I posted) and Johnny Coy.

  • This is a great clip of my great grandfather (Gene Lockhart)! He was very funny, thanks for posting.

  • He was one of my favorite actors (so was Jack Oakie). Terrific in Miracle on 34th Street and Of Human Hearts and, really, everything he did.

  • Btw I think the insturment Jack Oakie is playing is a recorder, not a flute, because you hold a flute up, not down like a recorder

  • Lol.....this is so funny!

  • Thanks! So great to see Irene Ryan here!

  • Thanks so much! I loved him in Algeris. It's always fun to see him on TV. Especially when its around the holidays because Miracle on 34th Street comes on and so does A Christmas Carol.

  • ok, so this is what comedy was like back in those days!!
