Your mom either was using one with dull blades or she didn't bother with the instructions.

I used a hair wiz for years and would still be using it if I could find replacement blades. If used properly no hair is "ripped" out and there is no pain. A lot of people don't like to bother with instructions so I imagine those are the ones complaining about it. It was simply the easiest CHEAPEST, BEST haircut in town. I still have my original Hair Wiz and would love to find some blades!

And by the way, they were made in the U.S.A., not Taiwan.

My mom was a professional beautician before she married. So she knew how to use this thing properly. I don't remember my dad or brothers ever bleeding because of it. Maybe it should only be used by professionals.

I keep my (bald and balding) hair short and I found one of these in a box in a closet. I used it yesterday and if you do it with some care and skill, it works great! One side cuts at 1/16", the other 1/4". Not cheapo blades- Szabo-Weber, Zurich Switzerland!
You have to be reasonably coordinated to use it.

My mom used this torture device on my back in the 70"s, there was blood and gore everywhere after the damn thing would rip my hair out. In the 80's, my girlfriend bought a damn flowbee, not only did that rip the hair out too, but the vacuum sucked up all the blood and guts...(she did the pubes too). I am not sure if that technology was headed for the right direction. Now I am losing my hair and the flowbee keeps the dogs ass trimmed.
