Gallia Kastner, 13
Tzigane by Maurice Ravel
Pianist-Matthew Hagle
Thank you to Almita and Roland Vamos, Rachel Barton Pine, Matthew Hagle, Rob Waller, Sue Polutnik, Fiona Queen, the Music Institute of Chicago, my family and friends, who put their time and effort to prepare me and to make this video possible. Due to the volcano in Iceland, I was not able to participate at the Yehudi Menuhin Competition in Oslo, 2010.
Gallia Kastner performs on a violin by Carlo Antonio Testore, c. 1700, on generous loan from The Rachel Elizabeth Barton Foundation.
What brand is this violin?

That was so lovely. Music can really go straight to your heart. 5:42-6:07 then the piano through to 6:43 made me feel like I was waking up from a very important dream. Thank you for posting this. It made my day.

This is a very difficult work for a young violinist to play, almost even more from a musical standpoint than a technical one. But you pull it off brilliantly! And I knew I recognized your name from somewhere - it's such a pity about the travel complications! Are you planning on participating in the next competition two years from now?
