Francis Dopff walks behind Robine, the 5-year-old mare, plowing a vineyard in Alsace on steep slope.
Francis Dopff owns a small company servicing the wineries of the area. His clients are mostly wineries with organic and/or biodynamic farming.
The first part of the video shows the walk from the tralier van to the vineyard.

  • They plough to take the grass off : the grass at some point makes too much competition with the vines regarding the water, and if you let too much grass with their roots, the vines don't get enough rain water (irrigation of the vineyard is forbidden in France).

  • et vous travailles come la roumain avec le chevaux

  • Maybe stupid question but why do they plough it?

  • does a plough need a knife or a coulter in order to work?
