I guess it's about travelling and being afraid, peer pressure, this kind of things... Now that I listen to this a second time, I think that's it. The 'fishes' symbolize the judgmental 'others' I guess. Drowning must be suicide, and it seems to me that they say that you can't come back and you mustn't be afraid of crossing the 'line' to being who you are - but who am I to say that ?
Anyways, hope it helped.

I know these lyrics are very strange (plus I'm not really a translation master). But even in French it's very difficult to understand, so. There's a lot of puns and idiomatic expressions, things that are very difficult to translate.
Most of the time, though, the lyrics don't really make sense from one line to another. I guess you just have to understand what you want to understand. There's a bit at the end that's about lesbianism, but other than that...

You can deal alone with your courage crap
We dream of sun at the end of path
Bare-breasted, coloured women, like a beautiful coloring
We drown in their deep and wild waters
This depth the crew men just don't have

In the last line I wrote there's a pun of words that's hard to translate. It's the French phrase "la mer à boire" which means "it's not that hard". They use it literally => "drinking the sea"
Chorus.
(They all but... x2)
Death is crossed, jolly roger, happy mariage
(The flag) flapping in the wind makes the crew uncomfortable
We're leaving, in other terms, we're packing (two phrases to say that they're living, one if whih refering to the sails)

@henrike87 We did need a lot of courage
To discover new shores, whatever it takes
Leave - they were long ones, these trips/travels
Heart overwhelmed with unbelievable landscapes
They all but ate my heart, those little fishies
Me, I'll play dead, swollen like a balloon (x2)
The ocean is sometimes wild between two streams/waters
Wouldn't be hard for it to make you want to drown
And there's too much water, so no way (for us) to come back swimming
It's hard to drink the sea given how it tastes
