One year ago, Mitsuharu Misawa tragically passed away in the midst of a tag team match. Today, to remember his legacy, the Emerald Museum is officially opened with three spectacular montages featuring a few of Misawa's most famous finishing moves. First up, the Emerald Flowsion(or Frosion). This move wasn't innovated until 1998, but once it was unleashed, many felt the brunt of the move, including Jun Akiyama, Akira Taue, Kenta Kobashi, and Toshiaki Kawada. This move would aid Misawa in winning and defending the Triple Crown Title, the GHC Heavyweight Title, to name just a few. Unlike most finishers in wrestling, this beast never did lose its potency, and up until his final months, Misawa continued to rack up wins using the Emerald Flowsion.

  • Has anyone ever explained what the word "flowsion" is supposed to mean?

  • I'm not sure it's ever been explained. The name itself has bounced around between Flowsion(which is also seen on an old Misawa t-shirt), and Frosion.

  • I particularly love it when Misawa does it fast and smoothly (like that one on Kobashi), it just adds a little something to the move. The original on Akiyama (number 7) is clearly the basis AKI used in their wrestling games for their EFs.

  • Indeed. Funny story about it being in the AKI games: The first time I watched Misawa/Kobashi 6/11/1999, I knew it ended on the Flowsion, but when he hit the move, I didn't think it was over, as at that point, the Flowsion had evolved drastically from the original use of the move. Kind of surprising that they didn't go in and re-animate it for the future games.

  • was he ever world champion. cause i heard somewhere that he was very underated.

  • Misawa held the Triple Crown Title on five occasions, winning and defending the belts in many of the greatest matches in All Japan Pro Wrestling history, as well as wrestling history as a whole. He was also a three time GHC World Heavyweight Champion.

  • If you don't love this move, hell, if you don't love this wrestler, than you don't love wrestling.

  • You know out of all the Puro finishers I've seen I've always didn't care for this one. It just hardly looks like a finisher that the likes of guys like Misawa or Kobashi would use.

  • If life were fair, Misawa and Jumbo Tsuruta would be alive and certain WWE wrestlers who shall remain nameless would be dead.

  • ある意味一番三沢らしい技。

    きっちり全体重乗せて威力は満点だが

    落とす角度やスピードなど、いくらでも調節可能で

    安全かつ説得力のあるいい技。

  • ehh, its basically an oklahoma slam setup into a jackknife sidewalk slam

  • when cena does the emerald flowsion (or a very similiar variation of it), i both mark out and curse cena out for doing it. mark out cause its great to see wwe guys like cena pay homage to the man, and curse him because of the fact that a shitty wrestler like cena would dare to do such a move.

  • One of the main reasons I re-watch puroresu clips like this is to listen to the commentators mark out on big moves like this. It, in-turn, makes me mark out.

  • I still hate the fact that he's gone forever

  • I love the way Japanese announcers pronounce the names of the moves.
