www.DickProenneke.com - "Alone in the Wilderness" is the story of Dick Proenneke living in the Alaska wilderness. Dick filmed his adventures so he could show his relatives in the lower 48 states what life was like in Alaska, building his cabin, hunting for food and exploring the area. Bob Swerer has taken the best footage from Dick's films and he has created 3 videos about Dick, "Alone in the Wilderness", "Alaska, Silence and Solitude" and "The Frozen North". You can purchase all of them in DVD or VHS format from the www.DickProenneke.com website.

That was brilliant!!!! He does make it look so easy. I really believe that this is the real way to live.... As we move forward with education and knowledge, we should now move back to the days when life was in fact like this... No government to tell you what to do and true freedom... The more we live the way we do, the more our chance of getting back to this peaceful existance diminishes, as we pollute our environment and create hate that fuels wars.. One day
Love what you used to be able to do before Government took over. I went to Alaska in 1996 and started to build a cabin as Dick Proenneke had done in 1968. I was confronted by a Government official called the Beuareu of land Management. They said I could not do this and kicked me off the land. All about money! What right does Government have to charge for what was not theres in the first place?
After watching this film and reading his journal I realized why I enjoy it so much and perhaps why others do as well. It's a story of resolution and determination. This guy, Dick Preoneke, did exactly what he set out to do. How many of us working stiffs ever make plans this grand and follow through? Forgive me for being poetic but his cabin is now hallowed ground. A monument to determination and self confidence. I've heard of people now going to twin lakes just to see his cabin. A pilgrimage.
