( NaNoWriMo 2009 ) Day 18.

Me = in not such a good mood today. Not sure if that comes across in the video (though I do point it out, haha), but yeah :| So yeah, kind of vented into the novel today, which... helped a bit, but I don't think my main character really agrees with that.

Excerpt time:

"A truce?" Kristiana echoed, as though expecting him to contradict himself or change his mind. He did neither. "Vampires and werewolves, existing together, without violence, without rivalry?" Her cynicism far outweighed his own, it radiated from her powerfully. Her lip had curled upward just enough for him to detect the disgust beneath the cynicism. She sighed, gazed absently at something across the room, as though losing interest altogether.

Cole almost cursed sharply when she moved again without warning, taking him with her, a rough grab at the front of his shirt that struck against the break beneath the surface and ignited white-hot agony once more. His back struck the wall again but together they were closer to the floor. She kept her hold on one of his hands, tighter now, her other hand moving from his chest to his jaw, pressing his head back and locking his gaze with her own.

"Vampires are superior in every way, wolf." She all but spat the word now, her pale eyes bleeding red as she stared at him intently, one predator to another. "Stronger, faster, better. We may not be able to breed like you, but you are animals. You call to the moon and you run on all fours and hunt with your teeth and claws. We have wealth and taste, class and standing. Vampires hold seats of power the world over, and what do the wolves have? Forests and hunting. Nothing." Her grip at his jaw was tight enough to bruise, leaving him wincing but with his eyes still open and held on hers. "No, wolf, we cannot strike a bargain, not with such a pathetic offering as a truce. An insult." Her accent had become thicker but not so much that he could not understand her. "To ally ourselves with your kind would be as good as admitting defeat and that is unacceptable. No, we will wipe out your race, strike you out of existence." Her smile returned, but it was sharp again with the tips of fangs showing as it widened. "All but a few, of course. Those we have tamed and come to call our own." Her thumb grazed roughly over the line of his jaw and Cole struggled automatically. She pulled his head forward and pushed it back, enough of a crack for him to still but not nearly enough to render him unconscious. "You will be one of those few, Cole. I will see to it personally, and believe me, I always get what it is that I want. Your filthy little friends may not fare so well, and your pack will fall under the might of my coven, but I have plans for you. Your defiance in the forest has secured your future in my mind." Her voice lowered, barely above a whisper. "Lucky boy."

The foul intent in her words and smile had him fighting against her again. The waves of pain from his chest and the sting in the back of his skull went ignored as he struggled against her, trying in vain to lash out at her with his feet but she was too close for him to kick or even graze. He growled and shouted shapelessly, tried to twist his hands out of her grasp and jerk his head away.

Hey there :D I think it happens to every NaNo novelist at least once; it's like a NaNo rite of passage or something. It just isn't NaNo if you don't have that moment of major doubt! Dear Clez,

I had that thought the other day wondering if my novel is a bunch of garbage too. It was fleeting thought as well. I am at 27,730 words right now, hoping to reach 30K before I go to bed and getting back on target. You are so close to finishing it's amazing! I would love to see your victory video and hope there will be alot of confetti. lol
