How to load a long video clip up to youtube using final cut pro and compressor.

1. Youtube file CANNOT be longer the 9:00 MIN.

2. Youtube clip CANNOT BE BIGGER THEN 100MB. If you cannot get the file under 100MB and you have a PC you can use the youtube uploader tool.
This video is using the web uploader so file MUST BE UNDER 100MB.

3. Split your clips into 8:30 or less clips.

4. Save your files as self contained Quicktime files.

5. Launch COMPRESSOR application and drag your files in to main compressor window.

6. Select a WEB setting from compressor setting drop down menu. You can use many of these compressor settings to get your file under 100MB
the "QUICKTIME 7 compatible- H.264 300kbps" is usally a safe bet. Feel free to chose your own 800Kbps is better but bigger file size, while 100kbps is worse video quality with smaller file size.

7. In compressor drag your selected compressor setting up to the video file in the main compressor window. Do the same for both files if needed.

8. Submit the project by clicking submit. This will start compressor the default setting will create the new clips where the old original clip is located.

9. You can check the "BATCH MONITOR" to see progress and how long it will take to compress.

10. Log in to your youtube account and select upload.

11. Enter additional info as needed you will get a prompt if you forget something that is needed.

12. select upload.

13. Wait.

14. You will see your video on youtube or get a message if something went wrong.

GOOD LUCK.

  • so Mike ,

In the end you compress to H264 with 800 kbs? or 300 ?

  • H.264 works great. Depending upon how long your clip is you can choose 800kbs for better quality or 300 if you clip is longer. You should be trying to keep your clip file under 1GB. So bigger file size is better quality.

I will try and post a new clip with audio walk through soon.

    Hope that helps.

  • Many of us can read the manual to find out how to do things but that takes too much time when you work and have other stuff to do. Thank you for being kind enough to show people hands-on how to do this. I can't speak for anyone else but I'd rather see it done and follow along, then just read it. If I have the option to.

    "Thanks a lot"!!
