In 1974, Ntozake Shange's choreopoem "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf" made its stage debut, combining poetry, dance and music, and most significantly, placing the black female experience center stage. In lyrical, honest, angry, funny and tender language, Shange's "colored girls" evoked the feelings woven into the fabric of black female life in America. Within two years, the play became a Broadway sensation, won an Obie and Tony Award, and would eventually be produced in regional theaters throughout the country. Now, thirty six years later, filmmaker Tyler Perry adapts this landmark work for the big screen, integrating the vivid language of Shange's poems into a contemporary narrative that explores what it means to be a woman of color - and a woman of any color - in this world.

FOR COLORED GIRLS weaves together the stories of nine different women -- Joanna, Tangie, Crystal, Gilda, Kelly, Juanita, Yasmine, Nyla and Alice -- as they move into and out of one another's existences; some are well known to one another, others are as yet strangers. Crises, heartbreaks and crimes will ultimately bring these nine women fully into the same orbit where they will find commonality and understanding. Each will speak her truth as never before. And each will know that she is complete as a human being, glorious and divine in all her colors.

Lionsgate and Tyler Perry Studios Present A 34th Street Films / Lionsgate Production. FOR COLORED GIRLS stars Janet Jackson, Loretta Devine, Michael Ealy, Kimberly Elise, Omari Hardwick, Hill Harper, Thandie Newton, Phylicia Rashad, Anika Noni Rose, Tessa Thompson, Kerry Washington and Whoopi Goldberg. FOR COLORED GIRLS is written for the screen and directed by Tyler Perry, and based on the stage play "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf' written by Ntozake Shange. The film is produced by Paul Hall, Roger M. Bobb and Tyler Perry.

  • I need to see it.

  • Then when the white police officers comes to arrest the dude, they see his dog tags. Out of respect the officer is like "aww they're nothin' but lil' nigglets anyways. Look on the bright side u just saved yourself years of child support. And worse case scenario we could just attach it to the Grim Sleeper." The lady in Brown comes over screaming. The blk soldier gives her a back hand in front of the popo then toss her ass out the window too. The scene ends wit them taking a shot of liquor.

  • I say fucc this film. Since TP wanna portray blk men in that light...i say do it the right way...David Chappelle style dammit. lmao I wanna remake this movie...wit a comedy version. (similar to scream and scary Movie). I already have one the sense already thought up. Since ole boy drops his kids to their deaths...I could see myself on the ground lookin' up as the lady begs for help start a chant sayin' "drop! drop! drop!"

  • Powerful, Powerful movie...YOu'd have to put yourself in a place you would not normally want to go in order to enjoy and understand the concept. If you're defensive or a man who does not want to understand the pain of a black woman then you wouldn't like the film. It's not a bashing film, but an educational piece...and I hear men say "well black men go through things too" well that's all true and good, but a black man should write a film for their issues and the two will be synonymous.

  • @oddsource You must be out of touch unless you're white. we black we know pain when we see one especially what White Spremacist had put us throuh from slavery . Black are the real Jews who went to capitivty slavery ,bondage. The 2 second coming of our King Yahshua will redeemed us from this pain.

  • this was a very powerful movie. Im a 14 year old guy and i had to leave the living room to control myself this movie it really hit me

  • Genocide!!!!!!!

  • worst movie ever... it was dragging the whole time. Women would love this movie, focused on relationships. For me this movie was horrible not the story but the fact that it was boring as hell.

  • @sprovost337 ooooo ok, thanks for correcting me. i'm sure it's going to be good,
