@STEPASAUR I know this comment is three years late but pretty sure the video displays how it happened. It is in a book called 'The Colditz Report' which speaks all about the escape attempts in Colditz. Pretty good book thats for sure. I think 300 escaped but a lot were caught. Some escaped multiple times.

a true story of a very brave and dedicated frenchman.
he also told the germans ,"id rather work for 100 germans than 1 frenchman"
when he was asked his occupation, he said,
"Undertaker"
even the german commandant laughed
