Part of my duties as a Sonar Technician was to perform ASROC security detail on board ship. The U.S.S. COOK (DE 1083) had at least 1 Singer 1911A1 as part of it's security arsenal when I served between 1973 and 1975. I did not realize the rarity of what I was packing during my duties!
Just a tidbit of info on just how widespread these 500 units were.

@Howler I had a pitted Singer in Vietnam maybe it was mine. (Marines) It stovepiped so I turned it in

do you have any idea how much that is worth 500 were made but only a couple hundred are documented i have seen one in my time it was going for 55000 and that was back in 2006
I was stationed at a Marine Barracks Naval Ammunition Depot, Hawthorne Nevada, from 1975 till 1977. Our duty 1911A1s were beat to hell. But we had a reserve locker full of 20 or so new ones in our Guard Shack. In it I found specimens (one each) of the Ithaca, Remington AND Singer. I can understand seeing an Ithaca and A Remington; but what are the chances of seeing a Singer when only 500 were made and most went to a specific place--not Nevada!? Thanks!
