How to make your own specialty service tool (SST) to hold a harmonic balancer steady while removing the crankshaft bolt. I made this one for a Toyota Camry 4 cylinder engine to replace the water pump and timing belt.

  • Jesus Christ you crap on about nothing.

Make the tool, show us how it works, job done. I don't need to spend eight minutes listening to you drone on when one minute will do.

  • @desmogod, get lost.

  • take the oil pan off and jam a wrench in the rotating assembly...works every time.

  • Sure, to take it off. What about retightening? And what if the balancer is on the driver side? Crank rotates CCW from that side. Jaming a wrench only tightens when you hit the starter. Hmmmmmmm?

  • Creative but a pure waste of time you can rent a harmonic balancer puller from autozone for 15 dollars a day, i mean when r u going to use this contraption again?

  • I like Toyota enough that I would buy another. That means I will eventually do another timing belt. So, yes, I will probably use it again.

  • why would you buy or build a tool for that it is so much easier to but a breaker bar on it and wedging it in the frame or ground and tap the starter it will drive the bolt off. and to put in back on put in in grear with the e brake on and chock the tires and just get it as tight as possible they only are supposed to be torqued to 130flbs.

  • 1/2in impact wrench with 1100lb ft of torque works well without a holder... cool idea for those without air though

  • great video. great idea on that home made tool. :D

  • Good vid, but i used an impact for the bolt, now the prob is i wanna make a puller to take off the harmonic.

  • blow that off with a IR impact 5 secs

  • now how the fuck do i get the pulley off without using a puller tool of some sort??? useless!

  • @desmogod yap yap yap...thats all we hear from your unappreciative mouth....do you normally run those pathetic lips to people that try to make things easier? again...your pathetic.....Also thanks fossil for sharing your experience with us...

  • I totally agree, this is alot of blah blah blah,,,, damm I just wanted to see how to remove the screw from Harmonic balancer, not listen to a boring how too and what I made..

  • @ZeroFossilFuel ...and if you crack the one from autozone you bought it for $200.

  • @desmogod Wow, you spread trash on other people's page too? Everyone please ban this idiot.

  • is there a way to put the harmonic balancer back on without expensive tools?
