A rainy day in Houston. Houston has only one commuter rail line. That is one of the reasons for the heavy traffic on the streets. The city is planning new lines in the future.
@CO738ify Actually, Houston can get an underground subway system and the water table has proven to be false. Amsterdam has the threat of the same problems and they have subways. Also, yes, DC metro and MARTA are definitely the same. How are they not. Both are third rail heavy rail technologies planed and built around the same time. I never said Houston metro is the same as those two though. I said that is the system Houston should build.
That's exactly how I look at it. I don't know if you ever been on the DC metro rail system or MARTA which is basically the same. But that is the system Houston should go for, IMO. I wish they stop being so cheap and look for something Bigger and Bolder. I mean, this is Texas, is it not?
Do you believe that Houston needs heavy rail over light rail than? It would be it much easier. I know cost is a problem but I read that there really isn't that much of a difference when you have light rail passenger capacity meet heavy rails.
METRO had the right of way thing in Houston but Houston drivers are color blind and cant read signs that telling drivers not to turn left or right... or wait for signal to turn. After many accidents METRO delayed the operators signals at intersections to make sure no cars turn out in front of the train or run a light. Theres a lot of people in HOU driving that cant read English, the rest dont pay attention. But the train does have the right of way just has to slow down abut not to a full stop.
I hope Houston continues to grow it's system but I do not like that it stops at lights. If freight trains do not have to do it, why should public transit. Let the cars wait.

Houston needs something else besides that toy train. You should come to a board meeting and look at the faces of METROs hierarchy.
