Two tunes; "A Man's a Man for A' That" and "Castle Dangerous", played on my practice chanter. I only play each measure once through.

You know you have control of the timeline right?

Jump to 1:55 for the start of the playing.

  • is that a mcallum pc4 chanter?

  • @brownycrevice

No, it's an old tru-tone I bought 20 years ago, but I hear the McCallum's are good.

  • Hi - I have been listening to your comments on Castle Dangerous. My Uncle Jim, Jim Haugh wrote the piece and I am delighted it is one of your favourite tunes.

    Keep chanting!!!!

  • Wonderful! Thanks for posting. I just played it on the bagpipes this evening near Torrey Pines on the California Coast.

  • I'm going through to Edinburgh today Christmas shopping - it's absolutely stunning at this time of year. No doubt will heat a lot of bagpipe music. Uncle Jim died a few years ago so it's lovely to know he's left a legacy that being enjoyed throughout the world. Thanks for sharing your music with California. Take care!

  • It was really a message to another youtuber I was chatting to hence the preamble. I'll need to get a tune or two up on my bagpipes.

  • Interesting! I was cracking up after the first 2-1/2 minutes cuz you were telling so much about what you were gonna do & I was thinking to myself, "OK, get on with it now man! I want to hear the tunes!!" hahahaha

I'd love to see you play the pipes some day; maybe at the next games! It was nice meeting you last nite at "the pub". Take care. Let's stay in touch.

  • Thanks for posting, I know the details having read about them quite recently. It was interesting that the piper's version of which tune was played differed from the official account at the time. He stated that he played Cock O' the North because it's tempo was fast and fit the pace of the charge. It's quite amazing to imagine this guy shot in both feet thinking about a suitably fast tune to play for the charge he'd just been wounded in.
