as Skorponok101 said it's not irony, irony is basically a coincidence of events that lead to the opposite desired event, basically for example I could crash my car making a journey to a meeting I was called to go to about car safety and how to avoid accidents, and if I had stayed home then it wouldn't of happend, thats irony in a very simple format! The king kong is simply a tongue in cheek reference

You see the Cloverfield monster attack the helicopter in the movie, it didnt crash randonly.
