How to install the KDE Desktop environment on a preexisting Ubuntu installation

This will show you how to have KDE and GNOME co-existing peacefully on one machine. Similar process for XFCE, just search "Xubuntu" in Synaptic instead of "Kubuntu"

hey, i wanted to ask, (even though i'll sound like a noob) how do you7 actually GET into KDE after you log out... i believe its at the bottom of the log-in screen.. is that right?

it's in an options menu I believe.

Maybe you just have to try the new version of KDE, 4.2 Also it is possible that your problems come from some driver problems.

If you want to try see another menu, try Lancelot. Maybe that is more for your taste. It can be very like Ubuntus default Menu bar(App, Places, Config), if you use the lancelot parts for example.
