From Bellini's "I Capuletti ed i Montecchi"
Recorded in 1986 in the very last leg of Joan Sutherland's career
There is an evident wobble but the interpretation is still beautiful and worth listening to.

  • I didn't remember this late recording of "O quante volte" was so good. Her wobble is under control and the middle sounds mostly very healthy and beautiful. And then the technical command, the sense of urgency in her vocal expression and the excellent phrasing (the diction sounds good as well). If it weren't for her kind of "parlando" way of reaching the lower notes in the beginning of some phrases, I'd say this recording is worth the very best demonstrations of why Sutherland was La Stupenda.

  • simplemente aparte de voz unica.......es que ...esta señora sabia cantar como nadie.......ha cantado jamas...............

LOL, well Joan retired 4 years later so of course she doesn't sound as fresh as in Alcina or The art of the prima donna.

    No. Don't post it.

  • Favolosa anche a sessant'anni d'età.

  • Primohomme, could you please please please please post Sutherland's version of Una Voce Poco Fa from this same album on Youtube? I've been wanting to hear a full version of Joan singing it (there's a tiny clip of her in 1972 singing it) for ages! I would love you forever. :P P.S. - the wobble really isn't that bad, especially compared with her Ernani and Bolena studio recordings.

  • I used to have a recording of Freni( a very young Freni) doing this aria, and it was fabulous..... The recording has disappeared, and I can no longer find a version of Freni doing this.. It is one of my most favorite arias..

This is pretty... even with the wobbles, she still had the artistry.
