http://www.BaseballStrengthBlog.com Are you long tossing properly? Do you long toss once a week? Daily? What's the right way to structure your long toss program to get your arm in shape for the season?

  • Hey Dew,

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the fastest and most effective way to get a better throwing arm (for pitchers or position players) is to long toss. It helps increase arm speed, teach lower body power generation, and gets your arm to full extension & pronation at the release point.

Simply put, if I could only do one thing to improve my arm for baseball it would be long toss!

  • It should also be noted that lifting tons of weights (benching, dumbell, arm weights)

will not significantly improve velocity. Elasticity of the arm is what it's all about.

Working on tightening the abdominal muscles will increase core rotation speed and thus, the arm.

As Tim Lincecum said, the body does most of the work, the arm is along for the ride.

Stay loose, toss when it feels good.

  • ur talking way to slow bro

  • I would do that but I can't always get a partner who can Mach my distance. At least we do it at practice

  • As a youngster prior to signing a pro contract I spent many hrs. throwing from the outfield [LONG TOSS] but I was as many youngsters are today, not just a pitcher which required me to throw from different positions & distances. something to think about, to acquire total success[one's practice sessions] [must correlate with one's game situations] as closely as possible, we do know that one cannot go out every day and gun the ball over and over in a short period of time.

  • @DewTheDew55mils if you weight train your gonna gai arm endurance but you won't get much more distance or more velocity, pitching requires a fully balanced body, when you weight train you lose some of that balance, but when you long toss you have to make all your muscles work as one unit, from head to toe, so instead of weight lifting use that time to long toss, 45 mins to an hour is all you need

  • what would be a good weight exercise that would put more distance on the ball, I dont have much time to do all these long toss drills, get back to me as quick as possible, thank you

  • this is a great video

    thanks!
