A massive fire engulfed the roof of a large residential building on East Houston Street and Avenue A in Manhattan on Thursday evening.
Numerous fire trucks responded to the scene for the three-alarm fire. Firefighters appeared to make significant progress in controlling the fire in about a half hour.
The FDNY said that firefighters have knocked down the main body of the fire, but were still putting out hot hotspots. More than 130 firefighters and 33 units responded to the fire, the department said.
The building is encompassed by scaffolding, suggesting some kind of construction is underway there. First responders evacuated the building.

@MrRubendeRuiter 9/11 was planned thats why they where chickens, they said fires where out of control and left but i know the same guys fought much bigger fires without giving up! they where told to step down with a serious threat, fire fighters care about lives (or at least they should) but somehow did not. i do not believe firefighters would do that without government intervention

@sh9683 indeed! I really respect them a lot. but here in Holland we would'nt do that for safety reasons..
