MACV Recondo School: Nha Trang

General William C. Westmoreland authorized the establishment of the MACV Recondo School in September 1966. Special Forces founded operated the theater school, for training reconnaissance troops for all U.S. and allied forces.
During the school's 4-year existence a total of 5,626 soldiers, including 296 Koreans, 193 Thais, 130 Vietnamese, 22 Filipinos and 18 Australians, attended Recondo training. More than a third failed, but the 3,515 who graduated were authorized to wear the Recondo insignia in Vietnam and were assigned a Recondo number that was entered into the permanent section of their military 201 file. The honor graduate from each class also received a special knife.

The training was good. The soldiers were good. The Political Leadership in Washington failed as did the Media. To be fair. The KGB ran propaganda programs in the States that started the anti-war movement and they were part of the main stream media propaganda campaign.

my dad was with sog from feb68-feb69. what it means is your dad was part of a group that was made up of some of the most elite warriors to ever fight for america. he can't talk about alot of it, but know that he did what many men couldn't or wouldn't do. the men of sog are true heros.

@frio109 i agree with 2/3 of what you say. the military was definitely good and the leadership in washington was definitely poor. but i don't know if the kgb was capable of running propaganda campaigns WITHIN the US.

The victory in Vietnam in 1975 was a victory for all Vietnamese to live in one unified country, unfortunately, VC messed the country up with military rules.

@artrees47 We won all the battles in Vietnam, but Vietnam was, finally, conquered by the Communists. Thirty-five years later, the Communist victory didn't make one damn bit of difference in the overall scheme of things. If that's not a farce, I don't know what a farce is.

What the were we doing in Vietnam? We were doing what we were told, and that's about it. It was a stupid war we were guided into by Eisenhower and Kennedy, and bloody well forced into by LBJ and Nixon.
