Another strange thing is
We eat "Food" Pronounced with a "oo"
and We are having a "Flood" Pronounced with a "Uh"
And another would be. He is buried in a "Tomb" Pronounced with "oo"
and don't touch that "bomb" Pronounced with a "om"

@xXHawtLikeThatXx Actually, English is mostly Latin, considering a lot of the words literally came from Latin then later evolved in pronunciation then eventually spelling. However, based off of this, the other half of English is a hodgepodge of words that already exist in other languages (German, kindergarten; French, collage, ballet; Japanese, karoke). English is just a big pie of things isn't it :D

England's history is actually hilarious when you look at it in the right light; when the Romans "invaded" we never actually put up a fight. There are records stating that we were the worst nation they'd ever seen, the most backwards and least intelligent. The Romans kinda resided here for a while, and by the time they left we managed to pick up enough to become a moderately successful nation. Skip forwards to the battle of Hastings, we do it again to the Normans. We are the amoeba nation :D

@xXHawtLikeThatXx all languages come from Latin which is why it is often reffered to as "The Mother Language."

@tubbereen2 you can pretty much name every name in the bible that you can recognise from the English, and it comes from Arabic and Hebrew... so yea, you missed Luke too ;) Good stuffs WhisperingLife

40% of the English Language, comes from Arabic & Hebrew semetic languages (i.e. Lemon, Mask, Orange, Racket, Sugar, Candy, Syrup, Alcohol, Chemistry, Talisman, Assassin, Admiral, Alchemy, Amber, Caliber, Coffee.
And most English names, come from the Middle East, (i.e. John, David, Paul, George, Moses, Jesus, Joseph, Sarah, Sussan, Mary, etc.)
England, is an amalgamation of many people, which is why its had a successful history. Which could also be the reason why "English" is so confusing.
