"Spiritual gifts come to those who have received the gift of the Holy Ghost. As the Prophet Joseph Smith taught, the gifts of the Spirit 'are obtained through that medium' [the Holy Ghost] and 'cannot be enjoyed without the gift of the Holy Ghost. . . . The world in general can know nothing about them.' (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, comp. Joseph Fielding Smith, Salt Lake City: Deseret Book Co., 1938, pp. 243, 245; see also Elder Marion G. Romney in Conference Report, Apr. 1956, p. 72.) "The gift of the Holy Ghost is conferred on both men and women. So are spiritual gifts. As Elder Bruce R. McConkie declared in Nauvoo at the dedication of the Monument to Women: 'Where spiritual things are concerned, as pertaining to all of the gifts of the Spirit, with reference to the receipt of revelation, the gaining of testimonies, and the seeing of visions, in all matters that pertain to godliness and holiness and which are brought to pass as a result of personal righteousness—in all these things men and women stand in a position of absolute equality before the Lord. He is no respector of persons nor of sexes, and he blesses those men and those women who seek him and serve him and keep his commandments.' (Ensign, Jan. 1979, p. 61.)"

  • The gift of the Holy Ghost. I think if we all had it ALL wars would cease!

  • Steadfast acceptance

President Richards enthusiastically embraced the charge set forth for him by President Eyring.

"On behalf of the college," he said, "I accept the charge given to us and we will move forward under the direction of the board of trustees to capture the opportunities in our future."

  • Thousand Oaks, CA was the setting for last month's "Mormon Night" at Reform synagogue Temple Adat Elohim. Rabbi Ted Riter has long been active in interfaith affairs, and he had the good fortune to befriend Larry Bagby while serving on a local interfaith council. Larry is a former LDS bishop who currently serves as his stake's public affairs director, and it was my pleasure to serve as his warm-up act at the event. . .

  • Mormon Night in God's Assembly

    By Mark Paredes

  • "I was in an accident just a few days ago, and Annette has a new grandbaby, and life is crazy, but we talked and decided to come anyways," Grant said.

Saxton and Grant are two of the many women who look forward to attending Women's Conference each year in an effort to learn, grow and be edified by leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and other women.

  • When the conversation turned religious and Eric Weddle said he had attended LDS Church meetings with his old girlfriend, his Mormon teammates perked up.

"Really," said Justin Hansen, a teammate who would become a close friend of Weddle. "You should come over to our house and meet the missionaries."

  • Ultimately, the church ended up with its own architecturally renowned design on a full, 10-acre downtown block. Digging into the hillside resulted in a massive building and parking edifice of 1.5 million square feet that still fits under the city zoning's 75-foot height restriction.

  • The current Conference Center resulted from the prolonged ponderings of then-LDS Church President Gordon B. Hinckley during the early 1990s, as he worried how to drastically increase the typical conference-session capacity of 6,000 to 7,000 in the historic Salt Lake Tabernacle.

Officials were sent scouring the world for possible prototypes as he mused about domed arenas and capacities of upwards of 30,000 and more. Nothing offering the size and seating was found.
