I am milling a new stepper motor mount for my machine. This is my first run milling aluminum with my machine. So far, so good! The final dimensions were on to the half mil, the machine still surpasses my micrometer on aluminum! :-) There were two bad starts causing the bit to go into the part. This was due to my attempt to use a very dull milling bit. However, the part is still fully useable.
Operations:
I used a small 1/8in endmill to peck drill 4 pilot holes since I didnt have a small enough drill bit. For the inner hole, the first pass uses a 3/8in 4 flute round end-mill to remove the bulk of the inner hole. A 1/4 inch 2 flute square end-mill then does a rough pass, then a final pass to dimensions. Finally, the 1/4in end-mill is used to profile the outer block with a roughing and final/release pass.
What bit are you using?

This is really impressive, good job. I am planning my own cnc drill/lathe am wondering where I can get a sturdy drill like yours, capable of cutting aluminum, not just mdf and the like. Thanks :)
