Dainese might be prepared to launch a production version of its D-Air airbag suit in 2010, but rivals RS Taichi look set to beat them to dealerships as they launch their T-RAPS suit this year.

The T-RAPS (Taichi Racing Airbag Protection System) has been shown in the video in its prototype form, and has already been shown as such at several events last year.

Priced at £1440 in Japan, the T-RAPS suit is an off-the-peg airbag system, but you'll need to attach yourself to your motorcycle in order to make it work.

See more about T-RAPs in this week's MCN, out Wednesday, April 9, 2008.

  • It deploys when the extension cable thing unplugs...So what if you get home from work and forget about it? lawl

  • I like the concept but just looks like an air bag neck brace to prevent hyper extension in cart wheel accidents. There are other permanent type braces like the Leatt that don't rely on some kind of activation to work. Overall, I like the idea of new ways to protect. I survived a high speed crash thanks to my back brace, but still broke 17 vertebrae..

  • @Olliedfox

At least you know it works :) Better safer than sorry.

  • @opmotocrosser You cant stand or the ejector seat will activate!

  • ummm what if i go to stand off my bike and the airbag goes off?

  • it would be better for small wireless receiver getting signal from the bike to activate the cushion but i like the concept

  • i just shit in my pants, that protects my ass

  • I want to believe these things can be perfected. I'm in favor of their eventual success and usefulness.

I just have yet to see evidence of it.

The problem is, all too often, the nature of motorcycle wrecks render the "instant of injury" so brief and instantaneous, so chaotic and turbulent, these sorts of suits are pie in the sky. Either the wreck was so minor, the suit did little good or the wreck was so bad, it made no difference. The bit in the middle I don't think will happen much.

  • opens after the impact, USELESS

  • i cant possibly explain how LAME that is, but hey, id rather look like a fuckin idiot wearing a my little pony shirt on a harley than get road rash, its a good idea
