deborphan finds "orphaned" packages on your system. It determines which
packages have no other packages depending on their installation and shows
you a list of these packages. It is most useful when finding libraries,
but it can be used on packages in all sections.

  • removing orphaned packages frees up disk space... and you have fewer updates... so you save on bandwidth and disk space... which nowadays are pretty cheap in many places.

  • my package manager of choice is aptitude... and it automatically removes unused packages.

  • I use the command:

    apt-get autoremove

  • Kinda nice to keep the dependencies... you might need them later

  • Good look, will try ...
