  • Why does he do it differently? Most people I see doing the clean and jerk do it with one leg in front and one leg behind on the jerk part.

  • @OrlyDudeGuy What you're referring to is a split jerk. Dimas always used a power jerk.

  • @miaouGR although ive never seen him split snatch, i heard somewhere he had a hip flexor injury and couldnt split jerk? could be wrong though

  • @speedykthx some lifters are naturally stronger in the power jerk than they are in the split jerk. Kakhiashvili, Dimas' teammate, also used a power jerk to win three olympic gold medals.

From what I've read/heard, Dimas was a very strong squatter from the first time he tried squatting when he was a young kid; that's probably why he favored the power jerk.

  • @miaouGR This is true, but there was an earlier stage in his career where Dimas used a split jerk. /watch?v=4N5HdkpFy2M Check it out there. Still pretty impressive.

  • @dcrossdark Dimas always used a power-jerk in competition, even in the early stages of his career.

The video you linked to shows Dimas do an easy 170kg split-jerk at some point during his training; not anything near a max attempt. Just a few days later (in the 1993 Worlds) Dimas snatched 175kg. If you check out any competition C&J videos of Dimas, he always uses the power-jerk (look up his C&J for the 1992 Olympics, which is even earlier than the video you linked to).

  • i bet the power jerk probably contributes largely to his insane quadricep muscle development, versus if he did a split jerk throughout his career. he's basically front squatting almost 500 lbs

  • it's interesting how I'm getting so many replies from my earlier comment, some people already told me and I already figured out, lol

  • @OrlyDudeGuy because dimas is a bad ass motherf@#ker

  • @JordanSpecops123 I think your video of Pyrros is when I first noticed that he doesn't shrug lol.

  • @Chatellier95 That sounds about right. I thought he did shrug but when I saw what you wrote i dont think he shrugs

  • @GZA036 The only reason I even logged into youtube was to look for this exact issue. I'm not proportioned right to get the bar to the right spot on my hips for the hip pop if I don't shrug before I do my hip extension, so I wanted to check to see if anyone else did the same thing. I've been pleasantly surprised by the answer.

  • @GZA036 I don't think Dimas shrugs at all, he lowers his head to throw it back. My guess is that he does that because it helps him with his extension.

  • strange... it's like he does his shrug early, then resets a bit, then explodes with his hips

  • @OrlyDudeGuy The greeks use this technique, it's allowed.

  • @Obsidian1392 no its a power jerk since he's not squatting
