I suppose the VG-99 uses sampled waves and digital filters to simulate the sounds of the all-analog GR-300, right? How convincing do you find the simulation? Digital filters have a reputation for sounding thin and brittle in comparison to analog. What about in this case?

No, the VG-99 does not use sampled waves. Nothing is sampled. It uses the exact same process as the original GR-300. 20 years ago I think people claimed digital was brittle, but that was the dawn of the technology. On a scope, the waveforms are almost identical. More impressive, the VG-99 glitches in the exact same way the GR-300 does. I have found a few spots on my G-303 and GR-300 where the output slightly tweaks, the VG-99 reacts in the exact same way.

Sounds like plastic!

You really need to hear one of these in a studio, or store. The audio compression used by YouTube is atrocious. I post these videos to be instructive, but they are a very poor representation of the actual sound of the gear. Of course, if you do not like the sound of vintage analog synths, you will not like the sound of the GR-300 emulation in the VG-99!
