As a periodicals specialist who works with 150+ year old bound collections, I would advise not trying to repair the binding. Just put it in a large envelope or plastic bag if you're worried about pages falling out. I've seen all kinds of different tapes screwing up pages and making them illegible, by people who were trying to repair old books. In the long term, they sometimes do more damage than good.
